Family Day

This past Friday we decided to get out of town for a little while. We loaded up around lunch time and headed south to Austin. We started with a little shopping, then a treat from Amy's Ice Cream, a few pictures on such a beautiful sunny day and wrapped it all up with our favorite Mexican treat - Chuy's! It was really a wonderful day to spend together.

Hanging out at the Arboretum.

Connor was pretending he could sit up unsupported.

Truthfully Matt was 6 inches away and sturdying him between my rapid fire shots.

Dr. Mom

For the first time in his 5 1/2 months of life, Connor is sick. He has a cough and a runny nose. It is a pitiful site to behold. The cough started a few days ago (maybe Saturday?) and just keeps getting peskier. Yesterday the nose a started runnin. Being the skeptic/hippie/anti-doctor mom that I am, I have not been to the doctor. He has yet to run a fever, his mucous is all clear and his cough is being productive. (I have the lugies on my t-shirt to prove it.) However, last night was very rough. Connor did not sleep well and therefore Matt & I did not sleep well. From about 2:30 AM on, we were up very often rocking, cuddling and patting our baby's back. Originally we set him up in his bed for the night, propped up in his Boppy but at some point we moved him to the swing which is in our room. He ended up in our bed because he finally fell asleep cuddling with Mommy. During the very rough night, Matt took the initiative to read the chapters in our baby books (3 different ones) on coughs, colds & when to contact the doctor. While we aren't ones to rush off to the doctor, we don't want to miss something big and have our boy end up more sick than he needed to be. We went back to bed confident that this is just a yucky cough and we are doing everything we should be. Just to be totally sure we were right (we are still paranoid fist time parents!)I called the pediatrician's office this morning and spoke to a nurse. I listed all of his symptoms as well as all the things we were doing to treat them. She said it does sound like a cold and that we were doing everything she would have told us to do, had we come in. So, all in all I feel more confident in my judgment and ability to discern my child's health, which I monitor with the utmost scrutiny. I feel neurotic sometimes noting every sniffle, cough or bit of eye goup, but today assured me that I am still making sound choices in the midst of my neurosis.
Thanks for reading as I pat myself on the back.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter! Today marks the day Jesus did what no other human has ever done - risen from the dead. He is alive today! I hope you have joy over that fact; I do.

Today was Connor's first Easter. His Mimi brought him a basket with eggs and new clothes over the weekend. After church we munched on snacks until the meal was ready around 3. I made our Easter meal (with Matt's help) for the first time. We enjoyed a roasted chicken with garlic, lemon & rosemary, steamed veggies, garlic mashed potatoes and ciabatta bread. Connor enjoyed my water bottle. (Watch the slide show, you'll see.) After the meal the sun was shining and it was beautiful so we loaded up the fam and went to the city park. Avery loved the outing. The poor dog is quite neglected these days. Anyhow, here are the pictures of the wonderful weekend.

What is this nasty stuff?

Connor is now 5 months old! I can't believe how quickly time is flying but he is growing and changing so fast. He is wearing 9-12 month clothing, rolling over, playing with his feet and talking all the time. He has outgrown his car seat and needs a new one ASAP! He loves playing in his exer-saucer, laying on the floor and looking at a mirror or playing with a toy. I introduced him to a sippy cup a few days ago and immediately he put the correct piece to his mouth. I don't think he's really tried sucking on it but he's at least getting a feel for it. For his 5 month birthday we gave him rice cereal. He doesn't push it out with his tongue, but he does NOT understand swallowing yet either. Check out his reactions. *Please realize that this is a series of short clips, I was not cramming the cereal down his throat this fast.
